On September 18th, 2023, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) collaborated with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) to create the GSTC MICE Criteria, aimed at establishing sustainability standards for the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. The MTA, an active GSTC member committed to sustainability in the hotel sector since 2011, played a key role in shaping these criteria, recognizing their potential to mitigate adverse effects and promote positive contributions within the tourism sector.
Furthermore, the adoption of the Green Key eco-label by hotels signifies a strong dedication to sustainability, providing tangible value in multiple dimensions. By aligning internal practices with Green Key standards, hotels not only reduce their environmental impact but also becomes a pioneering example, setting a rigorous benchmark for other hospitality establishments in Malta.
